Sildenafil, the medicine in Viagra, is registered in Australia in more forms than the tablet — and several forms sold online are not registered at all. Every registered form is prescription-only. The table sorts them; each form people ask about is answered below.

ARTG searches for sildenafil, BlueChew, chewable forms, oral jelly, "super active" and vardenafil, and the ARTG public summaries of the capsule, wafer and oral-liquid entries (each "indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult males", Schedule 4 prescription only), read 26 September 2026 (TGA — ARTG); EMA — Viagra.

What is BlueChew, and is chewable sildenafil available in Australia?

BlueChew is a United States online service selling chewable tablets of sildenafil and tadalafil, and neither it nor any chewable form of sildenafil is on the Australian register — ARTG searches for BlueChew and for chewable forms return no results. Products not listed in the ARTG "are not approved for supply in Australia, have not been reviewed for safety or quality" (TGA). The full answer is in what is BlueChew, and does it work?, and the form itself in what is chewable sildenafil?

The registered forms that dissolve in the mouth are the sublingual wafers (above); in Europe, Viagra also comes as a 50 mg orodispersible tablet, placed on the tongue and left to disintegrate before swallowing, best taken on an empty stomach (EMA product information). Whether chewing an ordinary tablet speeds it up is answered in does chewing or crushing Viagra make it work faster?

What is sildenafil oral jelly, and how is it used?

A sachet of gel containing sildenafil — the same medicine as the tablet — squeezed into the mouth and swallowed; the best known is Kamagra Oral Jelly, 100 mg per sachet, and it is not on the Australian register. The ARTG has no entry for Kamagra and none for any oral jelly. The medicine's rules do not change with the form: 100 mg is the label's maximum dose, not a starting dose; no more than one dose a day; about an hour before sex; sexual stimulation is needed; and never with nitrates (EMA; healthdirect). Is there a generic version of Viagra?

Yes. The Australian register lists generic sildenafil tablets from many makers in the same 25, 50 and 100 mg strengths as Viagra, and healthdirect notes that besides Viagra, "Other brands of the same medicine are also available" (healthdirect). A generic has the same active ingredient but "may look different and have different filler ingredients" (healthdirect — PBS), and it needs a prescription just like the brand. What are Viagra Super Active and Levitra Super Active?

Products sold online under the Viagra and Levitra names, and neither is on the Australian register. The ARTG's Viagra entries are the three tablets, 25, 50 and 100 mg; the Levitra brand has no entry at all, and the registered vardenafil is generic film-coated tablets of 5, 10 and 20 mg; a search for "super active" finds no sildenafil or vardenafil product. Unregistered products have "not been reviewed for safety or quality" (TGA). The questions: what is Levitra Super Active? and what is Viagra Super Active? How the registered medicines compare is in our comparison guide.

Is there a nasal spray for erectile dysfunction?

Not on the Australian register. The registered sildenafil products are tablets, capsules, wafers and an oral liquid, the vardenafil products are tablets, and the treatments healthdirect lists for erectile dysfunction are the tablets, injections, vacuum devices and counselling (healthdirect).
