What is BlueChew, and is it available in Australia? BlueChew is a United States online service that sells chewable sildenafil and tadalafil tablets; it is not on the Australian register. A search of the ARTG for BlueChew returns no results. In Australia, erectile dysfunction medicines need a prescription, and the chewable tablets are not a registered product here.

What is in BlueChew?

According to its seller, chewable tablets of sildenafil (the medicine in Viagra) or tadalafil (the medicine in Cialis) in the seller's own strengths. Those are the same medicines as the registered tablets — but a product that is not on the ARTG has not been assessed by the TGA, and products not listed in the ARTG "are not approved for supply in Australia, have not been reviewed for safety or quality" (TGA).

Does a chewable tablet work faster?

There is no Australian or European label evidence that it does. In Australia, the registered form of sildenafil that dissolves in the mouth is a sublingual wafer — Wafesil, 25 and 50 mg, prescription-only (ARTG); in Europe, Viagra also comes as a 50 mg orodispersible tablet, placed on the tongue and left to disintegrate before swallowing (EMA). Ordinary sildenafil tablets usually start working in 30 to 60 minutes (healthdirect). More on the chewable form in what is chewable sildenafil, and does it work?

How long does it work?

As long as the medicine in it: sildenafil's effects can last up to 4 hours (healthdirect), and tadalafil can help you get an erection at any time in the 36 hours after a dose (Cialis CMI). The chewing does not change that.

What are the side effects?

The same as the medicine in it. For ED medicines, the common ones are headache, facial flushing, a blocked nose and indigestion or reflux; rarer, serious ones include changes in vision, sudden hearing loss, dizziness or fainting and an erection that will not go down (healthdirect). Never combine any of them with nitrates.

What other forms of sildenafil are there?

Generic sildenafil tablets (see is there a generic Viagra?) and, outside the register, oral jellies such as Kamagra Oral Jelly (see what is sildenafil oral jelly?).

The short answer

BlueChew is a US service selling chewable sildenafil and tadalafil; it is not on the Australian register, and chewing is not shown to work faster than a tablet. In Australia, ED medicines are prescription-only — your GP can tell you which one suits you. The forms of sildenafil are compared in our guide to types of sildenafil.
