Viagra, Cialis, Levitra, Spedra and Kamagra side by side

Four medicines, one mechanism. The PDE5 inhibitors available in Australia are sildenafil (e.g. Viagra), tadalafil (e.g. Cialis), vardenafil and avanafil (Spedra) (healthdirect). Each blocks the same enzyme, so each needs sexual arousal to work. They differ in timing, in how food affects them, and in whether the product is on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). Kamagra is not a fifth medicine: it is sildenafil.

Sources: ARTG search (AU-FACTS, 25 September 2026); healthdirect; Viagra CMI; Cialis CMI; EMA overviews of Cialis, Levitra and Spedra. All of them need a prescription in Australia, none may be taken with nitrates, and they are not to be combined with each other: "Do not use Levitra film-coated tablets combined with any other treatment for erectile dysfunction" (EMA leaflet).

Viagra vs Cialis: which is better?

The labels do not rank them; they differ in timing. Viagra (sildenafil) is taken about an hour before sex and its effects can last up to 4 hours (healthdirect). Cialis (tadalafil) is taken at least 30 minutes before, and "has been proven to be effective for up to 36 hours"; it "can be taken with or without food" (Cialis CMI), while a heavy meal can slow Viagra. Only tadalafil also comes as a low daily dose, for men who expect to use it twice a week or more (EMA).

The evidence for each medicine is compared in sildenafil vs tadalafil: effectiveness and side effects, and the brands in Cialis vs Viagra: effectiveness and side effects. If you are choosing, start with which erectile dysfunction drug is best.

Kamagra vs Viagra: is Kamagra stronger?

No — both are sildenafil, and 100 mg is 100 mg in either. The difference in Australia is status, not strength: Viagra is on the ARTG (entries 64434 to 64436); Kamagra is not, and products not on the ARTG "are not approved for supply in Australia, have not been reviewed for safety or quality" (TGA). The full comparison — strengths, tablets and oral jelly, what the regulator has checked — is in Kamagra vs Viagra: is Kamagra stronger than Viagra?; what Kamagra's status means before you order is on our Kamagra page.

Eroxon gel vs ED tablets

Eroxon is not an Australian option. It is a gel, not one of the four medicines healthdirect lists, and a search of the ARTG finds no Eroxon entry. What its users report is collected in Eroxon gel reviews.

Does expired Cialis or tadalafil still work?

Don't count on it: both Australian leaflets say not to use the tablets after the expiry date. "Do not use this medicine after the expiry date" (Cialis CMI); "Do not take this medicine after the expiry date" (Viagra CMI). Until then, store Cialis below 25°C in the original pack and Viagra below 30°C in a cool, dry place. What is known about out-of-date tablets is in can expired Cialis or tadalafil still be effective?

Viagra vs Viagra Connect and Viagra Professional

Neither is a registered product in Australia. A search of the ARTG for "viagra" returns three entries: Viagra 25, 50 and 100 mg. Viagra Connect is a 50 mg sildenafil tablet that the UK regulator reclassified in 2017 as a pharmacy medicine for men over 18, so in the UK it can be bought without a prescription (MHRA); in Australia sildenafil "can only be supplied to Australians with a prescription" (TGA). The rest is in what is the difference between Viagra and Viagra Connect? "Viagra Professional" is not among the three registered Viagra products; what is sold under that name is examined in the difference between Viagra and Viagra Professional.

Generic sildenafil vs Viagra: are they the same?

Same medicine, different name. healthdirect calls sildenafil the generic name and Viagra its trade name (healthdirect), so a generic sildenafil tablet contains the active ingredient of Viagra — see what is the difference between generic sildenafil and brand-name Viagra? "Sildenafil citrate" is the form in the tablet: Viagra "contains the active ingredient sildenafil (as citrate)" (Viagra CMI) — the same medicine named with its salt; more in is sildenafil the same as sildenafil citrate? The same question, asked of a US telehealth brand: are Roman's ED treatments as effective as Viagra?

Sildenafil is also sold for another condition: under the trade name Revatio it "is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension" (healthdirect), at 20 mg three times a day (EMA) — a different use and dose; see Revatio vs Viagra. Generic versions exist for the other medicines too: the ARTG lists generic vardenafil, and the PBS names nine tadalafil brands, Cialis among them (are there generic drugs for erectile dysfunction?). On cost, tadalafil is not subsidised for the general public on the PBS: its only listing, 10 mg (item 4596X), is on the Repatriation schedule for veterans, with authority required (PBS). How the generics compare on cost and availability is in generic Viagra and Cialis: cost and availability.

Spedra or Levitra vs Viagra: which works faster?

On the labels, avanafil (Spedra) has the shortest lead time. Spedra is taken "approximately 15 to 30 minutes before sexual activity" (EMA), against about an hour for Viagra and 25 to 60 minutes for vardenafil (EMA). In Spedra's first main study, successful attempts at intercourse rose "from about 13% before treatment to about 57%, whereas placebo only increased it to 27%" — a comparison with placebo, not with Viagra. Whether that makes it better is examined in does Spedra work better than Viagra?

Levitra is a brand of vardenafil. The brand is not on the ARTG; generic vardenafil 5, 10 and 20 mg is. With sexual stimulation, an erection is possible "anywhere from 25 minutes up to four to five hours" after the tablet (EMA leaflet). All three brands are set side by side in Viagra, Cialis and Levitra compared.

Rhino pills vs ED medicines

Rhino pills are not an alternative; some have turned out to contain sildenafil, undeclared. The TGA tested capsules labelled Rhino 9 (2017) and Rhino 8 Platinum 8000 (2018), found "the undeclared substance sildenafil" in both, and warned that both "pose a serious risk to your health and should not be taken". A prescription medicine at an unknown dose, with no warning on the pack, is most dangerous for men who take nitrates. More in what are rhino pills and what do they do?

Is there a medicine to last longer in bed?

Not among the ED tablets: they are licensed to treat erectile dysfunction, not premature ejaculation (EMA). The medicines and methods used for coming too soon are listed in is there medication to last longer in bed? and compared in our guide to lasting longer in bed.

Compared, and chosen sildenafil?

Kamagra is sildenafil, the medicine in Viagra, sold here as tablets and oral jelly with live prices on its page; it is not on the ARTG, and that page explains what this means before you order. Generic sildenafil and tadalafil are on our product list. If you take any heart or blood-pressure medicine, talk to your GP before your first dose.
