Can Cialis affect ejaculation? Not directly, and not for the worse. Neither the Australian leaflet nor the European label lists delayed, absent or reduced ejaculation among the side effects of tadalafil, the medicine in Cialis; the one entry that touches ejaculation is rare blood in the semen. In trials of men with erection problems, ejaculation improved in more men on tadalafil than on a placebo. It does not delay ejaculation, so it is not a way to last longer.
What does the Cialis label say about ejaculation?
Very little. The Australian leaflet lists headache, flushing, back pain and muscle pain among the side effects, and a prolonged or painful erection, or one lasting longer than 4 hours, among the serious ones — but nothing about ejaculation (Cialis CMI). The European product information lists blood in the semen (haematospermia) as rare, seen in 1 to 10 in every 10,000 patients, alongside penile bleeding, and reports that less than 0.0005% of a dose appeared in the semen of healthy men (EMA — Cialis product information). If you notice blood in your semen, tell your doctor. An erection lasting longer than 4 hours needs your doctor straight away or the emergency department of your nearest hospital (Cialis CMI).
Can Cialis delay ejaculation or stop you coming?
Not on the evidence of its labels and trials. ED medicines are not among the causes of delayed ejaculation that healthdirect lists: antidepressants, some strong pain relief medicines, some medicines for high blood pressure and heart disease, alcohol and recreational drugs, as well as surgery, nerve damage, hormonal conditions, anxiety and stress (healthdirect — delayed ejaculation). Ejaculation problems often come with erection problems, though. Across 28 tadalafil trials, only 42.2% of 12,130 men with erectile dysfunction reported normal ejaculation before treatment began, and the problems were more common in men with heart failure or taking antidepressants or antipsychotics (Paduch et al., BJU Int 2012).
Can Cialis help men who struggle to ejaculate?
In men with erection problems, it seemed to. An analysis of 17 placebo-controlled 12-week trials with 3,581 men found that, among men with severe ejaculation problems, 66% reported better ejaculation on tadalafil against 36% on placebo; orgasm improved in 66% against 35%. The analysis looked back at existing trials, and the authors asked for new trials in men with ejaculation problems but no erection problems (Paduch et al., BJU Int 2013). On its own, delayed ejaculation is a different condition: erectile dysfunction "does not include problems with" ejaculation, and its treatment "cannot fix things that have always been an issue, such as problems with ejaculation or sensation" (healthdirect — erectile dysfunction); there is "limited evidence that medicines help with delayed ejaculation" (healthdirect — delayed ejaculation). It is also possible to "have an orgasm and ejaculate without an erection" (Healthy Male).
Can Cialis cause a dry orgasm?
It is not listed, but some prostate tablets do cause one. A dry orgasm, with little or no semen, can follow bladder or prostate surgery or nerve damage, or come from "some medicines used to treat high blood pressure, an enlarged prostate or depression" (healthdirect — dry orgasm). Tadalafil is itself used for an enlarged prostate (Cialis CMI). Tamsulosin, an alpha-blocker for the same condition, lists "retrograde ejaculation" in its Australian leaflet: "the ejaculation fluid is not squirted out, most of it runs back into the bladder" (Flomaxtra CMI). In a 12-week trial in men with prostate symptoms and erection problems, tadalafil 5 mg a day raised how often the men ejaculated compared with a placebo, while tamsulosin lowered it (Giuliano et al., J Sex Med 2013). The Cialis leaflet lists alpha-blockers among medicines that "may interfere with CIALIS", so tell your doctor if you take one. Does Cialis make you last longer?
Not by delaying ejaculation: medicines of its kind do not lengthen the time to ejaculation on their own (RACGP). When should you see a doctor about ejaculation?
When it bothers you or your partner, or when something changes. healthdirect advises seeing a doctor if delayed ejaculation is bothering you, and if little or no semen comes out when you orgasm, the change is new, your urine is cloudy after orgasm, or you are trying to have a baby (healthdirect — dry orgasm). The short answer
Cialis treats erections, not ejaculation. Its labels list no delay or loss of ejaculation, only rare blood in the semen, and in trials of men with erection problems ejaculation improved in more men on tadalafil than on placebo. It does not delay coming. A dry orgasm has other causes: prostate surgery, and some prostate, blood-pressure and antidepressant medicines.
