Can you take aspirin with Viagra? Yes — no interaction is known. In the studies behind the label, sildenafil 50 mg did not add to the increase in bleeding time caused by aspirin, and tadalafil (the medicine in Cialis) did not either. Take each as prescribed, and remember the one combination that is never allowed: Viagra with nitrates for angina.
Does Viagra make aspirin's blood-thinning effect stronger?
Not in the studies. The European product information for Viagra states that sildenafil (50 mg) "did not potentiate the increase in bleeding time caused by acetyl salicylic acid (150 mg)" (EMA, Viagra), and the Cialis product information says the same of tadalafil 10 and 20 mg (EMA, Cialis).
When is more care needed?
When there is a bleeding problem. The Viagra label notes that there is no safety information on giving sildenafil to people with bleeding disorders or an active stomach ulcer, so for them it should be used only after a careful assessment of benefits and risks. If you take aspirin because of a heart condition, the heart condition matters more than the aspirin: your doctor needs to know about it before prescribing an ED medicine. Stronger blood thinners are a separate question, answered in can you take Viagra with blood thinners or warfarin?
Can you take aspirin for a headache after Viagra?
Headache is one of the common side effects of ED medicines (healthdirect), and no interaction with aspirin is listed. Other painkillers are covered in can you take ibuprofen with Viagra?
Does aspirin help erectile dysfunction?
Aspirin is not a treatment for erectile dysfunction, and it does not make Viagra work better. The medicines available in Australia for erectile dysfunction are sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil and avanafil, all on prescription (healthdirect).
Which medicines do interact with Viagra?
Nitrates and "poppers" never; alpha-blockers and some blood-pressure medicines need care; and some antibiotics, antifungals and HIV medicines raise the level of sildenafil in the blood — see Viagra with antibiotics and, for the full list, class by class, our guide to taking Viagra or Cialis with other medicines.
The short answer
Aspirin and Viagra are not known to interact: sildenafil did not increase aspirin's effect on bleeding time. Men with a bleeding disorder or a stomach ulcer, and men who take aspirin for their heart, should make sure the doctor who prescribes Viagra knows.
