Are there over-the-counter male enhancement and ED pills at Walgreens? Not ED medicines: sildenafil and tadalafil, the medicines in Viagra and Cialis, need a prescription in Australia and in the United States, so a pill sold off the shelf is not one of them. Walgreens is named here only because the question names it; the answer is the regulators'.
Is any ED pill sold over the counter in Australia?
No. "In Australia, you need a prescription to get ED medicines", and a doctor assesses you before prescribing one (healthdirect — Erectile dysfunction medicines). The TGA states that tadalafil and sildenafil "can only be supplied to Australians with a prescription" (TGA), so no erectile dysfunction medicine is on an open shelf here. What does the TGA say about enhancement pills sold in shops?
To be very careful with them. Reporting that sexual enhancement products sold as supplements or natural formulas had been found to contain undeclared sildenafil, tadalafil and dapoxetine, the TGA urged consumers "to exercise extreme caution when purchasing unapproved products, whether buying online or in retail stores", warning that such products "may be fake" and "may contain undisclosed or harmful ingredients" (TGA safety advisory, 29 June 2026). A pack on a pharmacy shelf is no proof that a product works, either. Vitamins and herbal medicines are the TGA's examples of listed medicines, which carry an AUST L number, and "Listed medicines are not individually evaluated by the TGA for quality, safety and efficacy before they are supplied in the marketplace" (TGA — Listed medicines). Whatever natural ingredients a label lists, none has been shown to work like an ED medicine.
What is the rule in the United States?
The same prescription rule. The FDA's records list no sildenafil or tadalafil product for sale over the counter (FDA data: sildenafil; tadalafil), and the FDA warns that products contaminated with hidden ingredients turn up "at stores such as pharmacies, gas stations, convenience stores and supplement stores" (FDA). The short answer
An over-the-counter enhancement pill is not an ED medicine: sildenafil and tadalafil need a prescription in the US, as they do in Australia. The pills sold instead have not been shown to work, and the TGA has found prescription medicines hidden in some of them.
